"How do you bring a friend or relative back into the Catholic Church? First, you pray. Then, you follow Patrick Madrid's advice in Search and Rescue." - Edward Cardinal Egan Archbishop of New York

You don't have to become a biblical scholar or a theologian to be an effective spokesman for the Catholic Faith. In fact, even though you don't know all the answers and can't explain every aspect of the Faith, you can begin winning souls to the Church right now. .. using prayer, friendship, and common sense.

It sounds almost too good to be true, but in Search and Rescue Patrick Madrid explains why these are among the most effective, time-tested methods for bringing family and friends into - or back into - the Church. As the publisher of Envoy magazine, the author of many apologetics books, and a veteran defender of the Faith, Madrid himself has used these methods successfully for years.

But Madrid doesn't give you only the benefit of his own considerable experience: in Search and Rescue he also includes simple and genial advice from St. Francis of Assisi, St. Augustine, and other great lovers of God. Get Search and Rescue - the book that shows you how you can start winning
souls for Christ today!

Born Fundamentalist,
Born Again Catholic
by David Currie

$12.95 - 215 pages - Soft Cover
Ignatius Press

David Currie was raised in a devout Christian family whose father was a fundamentalist preacher and both parents teachers at Moody Bible Institute.  Currie’s whole upbringing was immersed in the life of fundamentalist Protestantism – theology professors, seminary presidents and founders of evangelical mission agencies were frequent guests at his family dinner table.  Currie himself received a degree from Trinity International University and studied in the Masters of Divinity program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

This book was written as an explanation to his fundamentalist and evangelical friends and family about why he became a Roman Catholic.  Currie presents a very lucid, systematic and intelligible account of the reasons for his conversion to the ancient Church that Christ founded. He gives a detailed discussion of the important theological and doctrinal beliefs Catholic and evangelicals hold in common, as well as the key doctrines that separate us, particularly the Eucharist, the Pope, and Mary.

Testimony of Hope
by Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan

$15.95 - 222 pages - Soft Cover
Pauline

Every year, John Paul II selects a preacher for a course of Spiritual Exercises for himself and the Vatican's Roman Curia.  For the Jubilee 2000, he chose Vietnamese Archbishop Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan. Testimony of Hope is the complete test of those Spiritual Exercises.  In this moving work, Archbishop Van Thuan addresses our need for hope at the beginning of the twenty-first century.  As a prisoner in various Communist prisons for thirteen years, nine of them in solitary confinement, Archbishop Van Thuan faced what he describes as "the agonizing pain of isolation and abandonment."  Recounting the details of those long years, he reveals the secret that allowed him to cling to hope in the midst of despair.
Archbishop Van Thuan's message to John Paul II is also for us: the hope he discovered in imprisonment is also our hope for the Church and the world at this momentous point in history.  Faced with any darkness, we have a reason for confidence: Christ, Hope of the World.
Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan was made the bishop of Nha Trang in 1967, and in 1975, coadjutor bishop of Saigon.  Arrested only a few months after his appointment, Archbishop Van Thuan was imprisoned by the Vietnamese gobernment for thirteen years and then "released" to house arrest.  In 1991, Van Thuan was expelled from Vietnam.  He went to Rome and began his work in the Roman Curia as Vice President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.  Since 1998, Archbishop Van Thuan has served as the Council's President.  In 2001, Van Thuan was named a Cardinal.
