De Montfort calls the Rosary, "The mystical rose tree of Jesus and Mary in life, death and etemity." He says that the roses of your Rosary will "never wilt or die, and they will be just as exquisite thou- sands of years from now as they are today." 

     
     He warns us against both the ignorant and scholars who regard the Rosary as something of little importance. He says, "The Rosary is a priceless treasure which is inspired by God." - The Age of Mary 

     In the beginning of the thirteenth century Mary appeared to Saint Dominic and gave him a Rosary. Dominic taught the people how to say the Rosary and to pray for God's blessings.

      At Lourdes in France, Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette eighteen times between February and July, 1858. Mary called for penance and said, "I am the Immaculate Conception." Many miracles still take place at Lourdes, where each day thousands of people pray the Rosary.

       In 1917, Mary appeared six times to three shepherd children, Lucia Dos Santos and Francisco and Jacinta Marto. She revealed herself as "Our Lady of the Rosary" and asked for prayer and conversion in the lives of all God's people.

The beginnings of the rosary are found in the early Christian practice of reciting the 150 psalms from the bible, either daily or weekly, as a way of prayer. Those unable to recite the psalms began to recite 150 prayers, mainly the Our Father, 150 times, often using beads to count the prayers. By medieval times the custom of saying "Paternoster" beads (the latin for Our Father) was common in many countries of Europe. While saying the prayers it was customary to meditate on the mysteries of the life of Jesus, from his birth to his resurrection.
